I've been PHISHed!

Yup, ladies and gentlemen ... I'm officially old and clueless. How else can I explain my ignorance when, I received a questionable message from my friend B with just a link , I clicked on it? And then proceeded to stupidly type my msn login ID and password. I started to get worried when the link seemed broken. I searched for my friend but she wasn't online. Hmm ....

I've almost forgotten about the incident, and then she came online.

Me: Hey did you send me something just now?
B: Nope.
Me: ... (CRAP)

I immediately did a search by typing "imagecherry" and found the info. I've been phished. DAMNIT!!! I quickly ran antivirus on my PC and then immediately went to change my password. It looks like I've managed to save my MSN account ... but I shall wait for a bit and see.

This is the culprit:

Birthday cupcakes (updated)

A few weeks ago, I was searching for new things to try, and found out that there are a few cupcake makers in Penang. One of them is Ween from love-a-cupcake. I like it that she's friendly, and very nice to deal with. She also tailors to her customers' budget requests, and not just dictate the price like "I charge RMxxx, non-negotiable" kinda thing.

I truly enjoy ordering cakes from her. A plus point - she makes delivery, too (with a fee, of course). This is especially useful if you want to surprise someone. I'd love to order more cakes from here. Actually, I did, for my Godma's birthday. I'll update this post when I find the link. Meanwhile, here's the link to my MIL's cake posting:

Fancy a bowl of Hong Kong tang yuen?

AN UPDATE: This stall has now moved to New Lane (based on the info in their website). No wonder I don't see it anymore!

I love to eat tang yuen all year long, and there is one particular stall at Magazine Road opposite Traders Hotel that sells really good tang yuen (I shall blog about this another time). But my relationship with this stall over the years is somewhat on-and-off ... mainly because the tang yuen seller is kind of "elusive" to me. Sometimes his off days were not fixed, and therefore when I reached the place I was greeted with an empty stall. Major bummer for someone who needed her tang yuen fix.

So, imagine my surprise AND excitement when I found out about this Hong Kong tang yuen at Perak Road. It's quite near my home, too! I HAD to check this stall out. Coincidentally, it was Rueben's day off, so of course I dragged him to go there with me. I bought 4 packets with different soup base - 2 soya bean milk, 1 red bean soup and 1 ginger syrup. I tried the soya bean milk one. So, so good. The milk was fresh and warm and complimented well with the soft and lovely tang yuen. There were 2 giant balls with pastes (white for peanut and green for black sesame). Frankly I preferred the peanut one. If I were to compare this stall with the one at Magazine Road, I'd say in terms of size, this one's smaller, and 1 packet contains lesser tang yuen, too. But both stalls are equally good in terms of the softness of the tang yuen.

A plus point: normally when I buy tang yuen, I prefer to eat them right away as opposed to keeping them overnight because then the tang yuen will turn hard in the middle, making the whole experience of eating quite unpleasant. Fortunately, my mom could not finish an extra packet of the tang yuen, so she had it the next day. She said it tasted just as good.

There's a website for this stall with a map showing the stall's location. I found the place easily the first time, but strangely, when I tried to show my mom the place the next day, I couldn't find it. I think it was because I went on a bike the first time, therefore keeping a lookout for the place was much easier.

The boss gave me a name card and a free gift (jelly)

Vietnamese @ Miss Saigon

There's a new Vietnamese restaurant in town. And it's the only one in Penang, too (updated: there's another one called Com Viet at Lintang Burmah). The last time I tried Vietnamese food was when Bingo was still around at Kelawei Rd. (now the place is occupied by Amandari's). I remembered loving their beef noodle soup ... and on one occasion, had a birthday party there for an ex-colleague. That was truly memorable as we thoroughly embarassed her by getting a cute waiter that she had a crush on to take pictures with her! Ahh, the good ol' days ...

Wait. This is not about Bingo. This is about Miss Saigon, the new and only Vietnamese restaurant in Penang now. Located at e-gate, just next to Old Town cafe, this place is hard to miss. Plus, with attractive prices for set lunches (RM10.80++ and RM12.80++ respectively), I was all game to try it out.

I happened to have a bout of sniffles today, and decided that a nice warm meal of beef noodle soup should clear my nose well. When I got to the place, my friend was waiting for me and had already ordered. I made my order and Grumpy guy (presumably the boss) continued standing and when I showed no sign of speaking to him, asked "drinks?" in a rather non-service friendly way. Perhaps he should've explained how special the drinks are instead of just "coffee or tea?". When he said it that way, the western kind of set meal coffee/tea came to my mind. Just as well, because my lemongrass tea was just okay. Grumpy guy then went all smiley faced to coax us to order the side dishes of spring rolls. When I told him we'd think about it, the smiley face disappeared and Grump guy was back. So much for their service.

Now, the food. I probably haven't tasted enough Vietnamese food to be able to give good judgement. How do I say this ... badly cut hor fun / koay teow in an almost tasteless broth. The beef pieces were sliced unevenly and unappetizingly (chunky's the word). Once again, I missed Bingo. The verdict? My friend declares that she will not go there again. I'm open to giving second chances, only that I will order something else.

I did not take any pictures there, but here's what I found on another blogger's website.
